My Story: Becoming an Equine Masseuse and Therapist
Owning and working with horses was only a dream as a kid growing up in San Francisco, My sister and I would rent horses at the local stables and ride on the beach in total hysteria because we learned horses had a mind of their own.
Years later, my life became like a country western song. First, my boyfriend broke up with me, and then my dog was hit by a car and died. Shortly after, I returned to horses by going on a trail ride at a rental stable called Five Brooks Ranch in Point Reyes. After that ride, I knew I wanted to be near horses, so I started volunteering there as a wrangler for almost three years. After that, I couldn’t wait until Saturdays to ride, so I returned to the stables my sister and I would frequent as kids to ask about leasing a horse, so I could ride whenever I wanted. That decision put me on a path to meet my husband-to-be and change my life forever.
I bought my first horse in 1993, and my then boyfriend (now husband) also bought the horse he was riding as a wrangler, and we moved them both to Half Moon Bay. He started working there as a farrier, and when his boss took over Moss Beach Ranch, we joined him there and have been there ever since.
Last year, my mare started showing behavioral problems that were not normal. So, I started looking into different reasons. After trying acupuncture and a chiropractic adjustment, I started looking into Equine Massage. Massage has greatly helped my mare, and I knew I had found my calling.
